Planning my dream beach wedding (yes, full telenovela vibes) taught me firsthand just how much professional branding can build or totally kill trust, in my case. So, I’m here to share that story with you, So, I’m sharing that story with you, plus some tips on what to do (and what not to do) to earn real trust with your clients.
Living the telenovela dream
Recently, I got married to the love of my life. A little context for those who don’t know me: I’m an Estonian and I moved here to Mexico a few years ago. And yes, my husband is Mexican so I’m living my telenovela dream in Mexico. So we were looking for the perfect wedding venue. A beautiful beach location, which has always been my dream, and thankfully, it was his too! (Or so he says)
Since my family had to travel overseas, we focused on hotels to make things easier for them. But as we started reaching out to different venues, something became very clear: the way a business presents itself through professional branding can make or break the client’s trust, and ultimately, its growth.
We sent emails to a lot of places, and honestly, I was overwhelmed by the flood of responses. But the thing is, the quality of those responses was… disappointing. There were pictures scattered all over the place and poorly designed PDFs that just didn’t cut it. I couldn’t help but think, “Hey, these hotels clearly have the budget to hire professional designers, what’s going on here?”
Seeing things through the client’s eyes: professional branding tips on how good (and bad) design impacts trust and business growth
Being in the client’s shoes for once was eye-opening. I was shocked by the lack of good branding and design when choosing something so important. With so many bad designs, I kept wondering: If they can’t even get their brochures right, how can I trust them with my big day? It felt unprofessional, and instead of giving me confidence, it made me second-guess their capabilities.
The hotel that got it right
Thankfully, we found a lovely hotel that got it right. Their communication was excellent, and their professional branding gave us confidence in our choice. We couldn’t have been happier!
But the story doesn’t end there. Once we signed the contract and started diving into the details, the hotel sent us their list of approved providers for various services—catering, decor, photography, you name it. Unfortunately, their brochures and materials were just as unimpressive as many of the venues we’d rejected.
Even though the hotel itself looked great, the providers they worked with lacked the same professional branding polish. And when you’re planning something as significant as your wedding day, you want to trust the people involved. Presentation matters a lot. Your visual identity is often the first impression and sometimes the only one you get.
In the whole process, we actually started second guessing our choice of venue. This was also very educational. Not only is your image defined by your design, but also by the presentation and design of those who work with or for you. After all, who can trust a decor company that uses Comic Sans and a poorly designed PowerPoint layout?

No, really. This is basically what it looked like.
We made it!

In retrospect, everything went great. Better than great, truly perfect.
Even though we did end up hiring the florist with a poorly presented brochure and the 5-minute-logo DJ company (we didn’t really have many options), a lot of the choices we made during this process were heavily swayed by the presentation of the products or services..
This experience is a perfect example of why good design matters, especially for building trust with your customers. When choosing a venue, service, or product, professional branding and design plays a huge role in how confident you feel about your choice.
My final thoughts: professional branding tips for earning trust and growing Your Business
So here’s my takeaway: if you’re in business, don’t underestimate the power of design and brand presentation. A brochure, website, or even an email response. Invest in professional branding and cohesive visuals. They’ll show off the quality and professionalism you bring to the table, because no one’s taking you seriously if your design looks like a last-minute afterthought.
Because when people invest in you, they’re not just buying your service, they’re buying trust. Make it count!
Make a first impression that lasts and a brand that grows.
Your visuals deserve some love and I’m here to help. Say hi and let’s work together →
